Costa Rica is Central America's jewel. Colonized in the early 16th Century, it's an oasis of calm and subtle beauty. Literally meaning "Rich Coast", Costa Rica is a small country of diverse geography and topography. The country has both a Caribbean and a Pacific coast and is situated between 8 and 11 degrees North latitude. A series of volcanic mountain chains runs from the Nicaraguan border in the North to the Panamanian border in the South. The country's biodiversity attracts nature lovers from all over the world; its tropical forests contain over 1,500 tree species. National parks cover almost 12% of the country, while forest reserves and indigenous reservations boost the protected land area to 27%.

Costa Rica's enlightened approach to conservation has ensured that lush rainforest are home to playful monkeys, jungle cats, languid sloths, countless lizards, a world renowned assortment of birds and a large variety of insects and butterflies. Endangered sea turtles nest on the pristine beaches and a variety of exciting big game fish swim the waters off both coasts.
The nation's climate is classically divided in two seasons: rainy and dry. The dry season runs from December through April and the rainy season from May to November. Average temperatures range from the 80's (29 °c) in the coastal region to the 70's in the Central Valley (21°c). |

Costa Rica is home to one of the oldest democracies in the Americas. All citizens are guaranteed equality before the law, the right to own property, the right of petition and assembly, and freedom of speech.
The goverment is divided between the executive, legislative and judicial branches. Noted for its friendliness and concern for peace, Costa Rica has no military. In 1987, the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize was presented to then president Dr. Oscar Arias Sanchez and is one of the reasons why Costa Rica is referred to as the "Switzerland od the Americas". In 2006, Dr. Oscar Arias became the first president to be re-elected. |

Costa Rica is without a doubt a leader when it comes to activities. There are endless opportunities for fun and relaxation in this spectacular biodiverse paradise.There are seven active volcanoes of which the most popular for viewing are Poas, Arenal and Irazu. All are within a 4 hour drive from Nexus Office.
If you love hiking there are several national parks that offer well marked trails, experienced guides and even opportunities for camping in the rainforest.
Costa Rica is replete with sparkling waterfalls, some hidden and some easily accesible, most with stunning views and refreshing cascading pools. |

Manuel Antonio National Park, just one hour south of Jaco, is the smallest and considered one of the most visually stunning additions to the National Park system.
White sand beaches and verdant rainforest trails that reach to the sea make this a perfect place to spend the day. Manuel Antonio is famous for its rare population of white faced monkeys as well as sloths, anteaters, red crabs, iguanas and a host of other endemic species. |
